Embracing Research in Real Estate
On the 5th of July 2019, the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe held one of the most important event on its calendar (Winter School). This year’s event was held under the theme “Embracing the Future through Transparency Models in Real Estate Practice”
The theme directly speaks to the mission of the Institute which reads “We exist to enhance the provision of resources to the real estate practitioners for sustainable delivery of value added services benchmarked to global standards”
The discussions clearly showed that lack of Insightful information is putting the real estate market at risk specifically, the integrity of the market and the potential that real estate has as an investment vehicle.
We therefore through initiatives like this publication and other research activities aim to transform the real estate investment sector and raise its information, reporting and transparency standards to the level of other asset classes.
Real Estate Investment just like any other form of investment is data driven but unlike other sectors, the property market is dogged by lack of researched data hence the need to focus on research and data dissemination thrust.
Real Estate is a complex market in nature such that the general public, investors, practitioners, regulators and policy makers require insightful information to make decisions. It is against this background that the Institute has initiated the idea of creating a comprehensive and value adding research reports.
The research scope seeks to promote harmonized valuation standards for properties and transparency in investment risk assessment. It also seeks to promote a more integrated and holistic approach towards the establishment and management of real estate organizations for a solid real estate sector in the country.
This would also build a nexus for discussing particular actions to be undertaken for the industry to unlock more value and is meant to be the starting point for in-depth investigation of a variety of aspects related to the real estate sector with the view to improve on its functions and contribution to the development of the country.
This initiative would improve credibility, consistency, accuracy and transparency on the dissemination of information to existing and new investors.
